Debate Competition

Integrated Academy of Management and Technology (INMANTEC), Ghaziabad since its inception has always emphasized on the all-round development of its students. The robust curriculum and pedagogy at INMANTEC not only help students master the required managerial and technical skill but also ensures that students develop the ability to do critical thinking. The Executive Director of INMANTEC Dr. Pankaj Gupta has always stressed in making the students a responsible citizen who can take an informed stand on critical issues challenging the society. In pursuance of this objective INMANTEC conducted an Inter college debate competition on 21st of April 2016. More than 44 teams from different management and engineering colleges in Delhi NCR region participated in the competition. The topic of the debate was – “The house believes there should not be any restrictions on freedom of speech/ expression in a democracy.” The debate was moderated and judged by a jury of three members – Prof. Praveen Srivastava, Prof. J S Sharma and Shri Ashish Kumar Das. The chief guest for the function was Mr Rohit Pradsad from Amar Ujala. In the initial round all the participants took a stand with respect to the topic and expressed their views and arguments in support or against the topic. In the initial round many students received wide applause from the audience, other participants and sometimes even from the jury members for their strong views and logical development of their arguments. Though difficult but eventually the best 14 participants were selected for the second round where they were pitted against one another through a lottery system. The second round which was a more stringent test of participants debating skills often produced a series of arguments and counter arguments between the participants. The excitement level was so high if often required intervention from the jury members. One of the best sequences of arguments took place between Mr. Shivam Garg and Ms. Dristi Marwah who were also declared the eventual winner and runner up. The winners were given a trophy and cash prize(Rs 2100/- 1st prize & 1100/- 2nd prize) by Dr. Latika Gupta. Two special jury awards were also given to Mr Gavendra and Ms Ankita. All Participating students were given a certificate of participation.
The event was organized on behalf of INMANTEC by Prof. Vivek Saxena & Prof. Pankaj Dutta with support from other faculty members.
